In the evaporator coil, the liquid refrigerant evaporates and the evaporated gas cools the indoor coil.
The AC fan then blows the accumulated air by the indoor air and passes it by the refrigerant- then cools the air.
The cool gas from the evaporator moves inside the home and the heated gas is removed through the outdoor unit. The refrigerant comes back to the unit and the heat is dissipated throw the outdoor unit.
The cycle keeps on repeat- the indoor unit captures the hot air, refrigerant evaporates and mixes with the hot air, the cool air goes inside through the fan, and the heat is sent outside- cooling is done and AC is working well.
